Job Description

The Edinburgh International Festival is welcoming expressions of interest from professionals in the areas of:

  • British Sign Language interpreters (particularly those who would be happy to be integrated into a performance)
  • Audio describers
  • Captioners

Every August we deliver an unparalleled celebration of performing arts, which brings some of the most exciting and creative artists working today to audiences from around the world. We are looking to improve our access provisions for 2023 and are particularly interested in hearing from access interpreters interested in working creatively and imaginatively within the fields of theatre, opera, music and dance.

We acknowledge that we have a lack of diversity within our freelancing pool and existing list of interpreters. We are working to actively diversify our talent pool and especially encourage professionals from ethnically diverse backgrounds to apply.

In the spirit of ‘nothing about us without us’, we would love to hear from access interpreters and professionals working within access who are D/deaf or disabled.

Knowledge, skills, and experience required

We are keen to hear from highly skilled individuals who have experience in delivering interpretation for the performance sector. We particularly welcome candidates with a history of performing themselves. Candidates ideally will have trained professionally to the accepted standard for your profession (for example BSL Level 6, certification of training in audio description, and certification in captioning from Stagetext or another relevant awarding body). However, if you are still in training or looking to develop your skills, we would still love to hear from you.

How to apply

Submit your details into the form below to be added to the pool.

The Festival runs for three weeks from 4–27 August 2023. We also have events which need interpretation throughout the year. Candidates will be contacted regarding available opportunities for the Edinburgh International Festival 2023.

Applications will remain open on a rolling basis.
