Patricia Kopatchinskaja & Camerata Bern
The thrilling violinist joins forces with chamber orchestra Camerata Bern for an absorbing new presentation of Haydn's The Seven Last Words of Christ.
Haydn’s seven meditations on The Seven Last Words of Christ are presented in a refreshing new guise by violinist-director Patricia Kopatchinskaja and the Camerata Bern, with video installation by René Liebert.
Patricia Kopatchinskaja is a force of nature whose passion, musicality and sense of adventure have made her a favourite with audiences worldwide. Performed in front of a bold new installation, Kopatchinskaja brings that energy to Haydn’s innovative collection of slow movements. The music opens with a noble introduction and closes with a tempestuous ‘Earthquake’ finale. Liebert’s artistic reflection of Haydn’s music features images projected onto three screens, symbolising the three crosses. As the music unfolds, performers invite the audience to engage with Haydn’s music – and the messages behind it – with renewed focus, relating the work to the present day and the current state of the world. With its unique fusion of music and visuals, this is sure to be a thought-provoking and unforgettable experience.
Kopatchinskaja plays with ferocious passion, at ease with even the most difficult technical passages
