Nai Barghouti & Khalil Khoury at The Hub
The singer and qanun player join forces for a globe-trotting performance showcasing their ability to create something wholly new from diverse musical influences.
Nai Barghouti is a phenomenon: a Palestinian singer, composer and flute player who launched her career aged only 14. In the first of two concerts at The Hub, Barghouti is joined by award-winning qanun player Khalil Khoury, who is building a reputation as one of the new generation’s most versatile and creative Palestinian musicians, admired for his extraordinary sensibility and musicality.
Barghouti combines impeccable skill with a sense of musical adventure. She infuses her music with an eclectic range of influences, mixing jazz and blues elements with Middle Eastern idioms. Similarly, Khalil is constantly searching for new forms of expression to appeal to listeners around the world. The unique and captivating sound he creates has a rich rhythmical vocabulary, combining with his heartfelt melodies to provide a perfect counterpoint to Nai Barghouti’s rich and expressive voice.
